Strategy

This addition and renovation will upgrade the center’s existing structure to form a cohesive 21st century facility with unified operations. The project will incorporate sustainability into every aspect of its design to ensure long-term environmental benefits that result in operational cost savings as well as enhancement to the wider local community. These savings are critical, given the nature of the center’s around the clock operations.

Focusing on façade optimization, Atelier Ten is testing and recommending strategies to achieve a high level of environmental performance without compromising stringent security requirements. Upgrades to the existing building will improve the center’s indoor environment to reflect its mission of being a safe, secure, humane, dignified and operationally efficient facility. Energy efficient lighting design, grey water recycling, storm water management, a PV wall, green roof and other energy efficiency measures are being pursued to minimize the center’s environmental footprint.
