1100: Architect

As Atelier Ten’s first completed project with the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC), we worked closely with the design team to implement a high-performance plan as outlined in the DDC’s High Performance Guidelines. Strategy

The renovation of the Queens Central Public Library and the extension of the Children’s Library Discovery Center exemplifies innovative and optimal performance in building design and operation. Atelier Ten evaluated four building system scenarios including an option with a district heating and cooling plant that would serve both the existing building and its new addition. As a result of our counsel, the building exceeded the DDC’s high-performance design guidelines, with particular attention given to the design of a high-performance envelope, the incorporation of a high-efficiency building system, and the careful balance of lighting and daylighting to create a better thermal and visual environment.
