Strategy

Atelier Ten collaborated with the architects and design team to integrate generous daylighting with highly efficient electric lighting for all research, office, and gathering spaces. The lighting scheme enhances visual quality and reduces overall power usage well below energy code requirements.

Fresh air flow is provided through a system that transfers air across each office and laboratory module, exhausting it through double-sashed fume hoods and a heat exchanger. The result is 20% energy savings beyond code requirements. Potable water usage reduction is achieved through the use of reverse osmosis distilled water for flushing toilets and air-conditioning condensate for irrigation. Furnishings include environmentally-preferable and locally-available materials, as well as FSCcertified wood millwork.
