Strategy
Atelier Ten managed the LEED submission for the 16-story Harsen House. Working closely to educate all members of the team about the LEED process, Atelier Ten guided the project towards capturing more LEED credits than initially targeted. Sustainable strategy starts with the building’s location near ample public transportation and the availability of convenient bike storage, which reduces emissions from personal cars.
Materials used for ground paving, balconies, and roof have high SRIs to reduce urban heat island effect. The highly-reflective roof keeps the top of the building cool. Low-flow fixtures, including dual flush toilets, reduce water consumption by over 30%. The selection of low chemical-emitting, locally sourced materials, coupled with a green housekeeping plan ensure lasting high air quality for the building.
