Holmes Place Sports Centre

Mittelman Caradoc Hodgkins Architects

The Holmes Place Sports Club was constructed
on the 4th Floor of a fully operational shopping
centre, the Bentall Centre in Kingston. The
swimming pool was constructed from stainless
steel and because of the limited access an
unusual combined air duct and water feature developed as a result.

Strategy

The club has its heat and hot water supplied from a combined heat and power plant which also supplies some 80% of the electrical demand.

All of the studios and training rooms are mechanically ventilated and air conditioned due to the very high occupancy loads.

High-performance low-energy lighting was specified throughout along with sceneset controls to maximise flexibility. The lounge provides a moment of calm amidst the busy club.
