Strategy

Situated in the National Industrial Heritage Park, this museum reuses a decommissioned steel furnace as its site. A series of above and below grade pavilions were added to accommodate administrative, gallery, and multipurpose areas.

Atelier Ten’s analysis work focused on the envelope design and on guiding the local engineers in designing an efficient MEP system that included an underfloor displacement ventilation and ice storage. Integrating the floor based ventilation system within the historic structure was a major collaborative effort. The building also uses a greywater system, low-flow water fixtures and a native green roof to greatly reduce potable water consumption.
