Strategy

From its shimmering façade of sun shades to the lab spaces deep within, the new headquarters building for the South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute will be filled with daylight. Atelier Ten has been instrumental in helping translate the initial design concept of Eco-Façade into a high-performance solar-responsive building skin that carefully balances daylight levels within to suit different program areas while always maintaining views out over the city center.

Atelier Ten performed daylight, solar control and energy analysis which guided the team’s selection of the building’s triangulated external shading system. This façade system will better control daylight within the building and reduce unwanted solar heat gains, which together will reduce building energy use and associated greenhouse gas emissions.
