DAYLIGHT ANALYSIS
Strategy
In conjunction with the competition team Atelier Ten investigated and presented a number of proposals for refurbishment, extension of the existing building together with re-build of new commercial premises of the existing site. The competition brief sought a BREEAM 2011 rating of Excellent or above and should meet or better the standards for British Council of Offices accommodation.
Each of the options considered maximisation of day lighting to the internal space, comfort cooling and heat recovery ventilation, assessed renewable and low/zero carbon technologies and their suitability for each of the options.
With the building being on a busy thoroughfare in London, both noise and air quality were an important factor for the development. In conjunction with the Architect a perimeter heat recovery strategy was developed where units are integrated into the building’s façade that provided both fresh and re-circulated ventilation to the building and permits each floor of the building to be developed on a standard office grid template providing future flexibility for incoming tenants.
